Selasie Torgby Tetteh, WopeCar’s Personal Assistant to the General Manager, never anticipated taking on a leadership support role. Initially applying for a customer service position, Selasie’s adaptability and potential for strategic coordination quickly led to her pivotal role supporting the General Manager and ensuring smooth operations at WopeCar.

The General Manager saw potential beyond the initial role; someone with the poise and perspective to take on something bigger. That instinct turned out to be right.

She believed I could thrive in a role with more strategic coordination,” Selasie recalls.

And stepping into the PA role has been one of the best things to happen in my journey.”

Since then, she’s become the steady, focused hand behind the scenes; helping WopeCar’s leadership operate smoothly, even amidst the chaos of fast-paced days. Alongside her work, she’s also pursuing a law degree, a combination that demands intentionality, flexibility, and discipline.

It’s a balancing act,” she says, “but one I truly enjoy.”

When asked what skills make someone effective in her role, Selasie doesn’t overcomplicate it. Calmness. Adaptability. Clear communication.

You have to stay grounded no matter how fast things get. Being organized and emotionally intelligent really matters. It’s not just about tasks, it’s about people.

And even with all the skills in place, she admits there are still nervous days and mistakes.

But I keep learning, bouncing back, and showing up. That’s what counts.

On days when priorities clash and schedules tighten, Selasie keeps things structured. She plans early, asks questions, and adapts in real-time.

“Some days feel overwhelming, but I remind myself I don’t have to be perfect to be effective. I just have to keep showing up with intention.”

For her, the most fulfilling part of the role isn’t about visibility, it’s about impact.

When the GM has a productive day, when meetings run smoothly or decisions get made because I handled the small things, that’s a win for me. It’s the quiet impact that feels most rewarding.

She remembers one week in particular when the calendar felt like an impossible puzzle. Meetings overlapped across departments and external partners, and there was barely time to breathe.

“I took a deep breath, mapped everything out, reshuffled the schedule, and communicated with everyone. It reminded me that calm and clarity can turn chaos into order.”

It also reminded her to triple-check everything.

Because yes, I make mistakes too!

To anyone considering a path as a PA or executive assistant, Selasie’s advice is grounded and honest.

Don’t wait to feel perfect. Just be willing to learn. Stay calm. Ask questions. Some days will be hard and yes, you’ll get nervous, but you’ll grow in ways you never expected. Support roles are powerful. They make everything else work. Own that power; quietly, but confidently.”
