When Anita first encountered WopeCar, it had nothing to do with finance. She had completed a full-stack web development program at iSpace and was posted to WopeCar for IT-related support. She was testing the website, spotting bugs, and suggesting improvements. At the time, she had no idea the company would become a long-term part of her professional journey; not in tech, but in finance and operations.

But her path to finance started much earlier.

“I was working as both an accountant and admin officer before I even did the IT program,” she explains.

“So when WopeCar later had an opening for an accounting assistant, I was called in and I took the chance.”

Today, Anita serves as the Finance and Operations Manager at WopeCar, overseeing everything from payments and reconciliations to high-level strategic planning. But it’s not without challenges.

“One of the hardest parts is scrutiny. You have to ask questions: Why are we spending on this? What value are we getting? Some people take it personally; as if you're doubting their integrity. But I always try to explain it afterward: it’s not about distrust; it’s about accountability. Show me the worth through your eyes.”

Anita’s approach to finance is relational. She values communication, collaboration, and shared understanding. It’s how she turns tension into trust.

“The best reward isn’t the paycheck. It’s when I know I’ve taught someone the rationale behind our checks and balances. When people start thinking like you in meetings, weighing costs, and anticipating your questions. That’s impact.”

Anita doesn't work alone. She highlights her teammate Afra Kumah as key to keeping processes smooth and scalable.

“We create templates and sheets to help other departments plan and budget. Finance can't run in isolation. We empower others to think financially too.”

A typical day? There is no such thing.

From managing client complaints to transferring funds, attending audits, and troubleshooting bookings, each day is packed. But that’s part of the thrill.

“It’s intense. But it’s also fulfilling. I can't afford to slack. Not when I represent my family, my team, and God. That’s what keeps me going.”

Anita’s perspective on finance is deeply human. She believes teamwork is the backbone of every department and that finance helps every other arm of the business thrive.

“Every refund, every invoice, every data set; that’s impact. It may look small, but collectively, it drives growth.”

As the finance landscape evolves, Anita sees tech and AI playing a big role; from automation to tools like ChatGPT and Gemini that simplify templates, calculations, and even communication.

“Tech is changing everything and WopeCar is adapting fast.”

Reflecting on what she’s learned, Anita laughs.

“Before this, I didn’t care what car you drove. Now? I understand the value of a Pajero vs. a Prado. I see the business opportunity in every asset. I’ve learned so much here. This is the longest I’ve ever stayed at a job, and I’m still learning every day.”

Her advice for anyone starting in finance is clear: explore, specialize, and start where you are.

“Finance is broad. You may love tax but not cost accounting and that’s okay. Talk to professionals. Listen to their stories. Your passion will lead you to the right path. Just start; even if it’s teaching someone basic bookkeeping.
