In April, the WopeCar team had the pleasure of engaging in a truly transformative training session with Chichi Yakubu, the founder of Nyonyo and a self-described “Jesus-loving girl” whose passion for life, business, and authenticity left a deep impression on all of us.

Chichi’s journey is one of bold pivots, intentional living, and learning to embrace both the struggles and the grace that come with growth.

Here are a few powerful lessons she shared:

1. You Are the CEO of Your Life; Act Like It

Whether you’re in admin or operations, show up like you’re in charge. That mindset shift can open unexpected doors. Chichi once volunteered to sit in as a receptionist, despite holding a bigger role. That bold move got her noticed and poached for an even bigger opportunity.

2. Passion Is Beautiful. But Secure the Bag First

You don’t need a side hustle unless it makes sense for you. Her advice? Find what pays your bills and do it well and then fund your passion from there. Don’t let social media fool you into thinking entrepreneurship is the only way. Contentment is a strategy too.

3. Maximize the Moment

If you’re going to show up, show up well. Whether you’re rocking makeup or going bare-faced, do it with intention. Hydrate. Dress for the day. On your worst day, look like someone’s best. That’s not vanity; it’s self-respect.

4. Take Up Space. Let People Talk

From being “intimidating” to being unforgettable, Chichi reminded us that shrinking doesn’t serve anyone. When you walk in your truth, people will either love you or respect you enough to speak your name in rooms you’ve never entered.

5. Lead with Grace

You’re human. Be open with your team. Don’t suffer in silence. Communicate with kindness. Extend grace and ask for it when needed. The workplace should feel like a place you can breathe, not just exist.

The training wasn’t just about entrepreneurship; it was about self-leadership, workplace culture, and the power of intentional living. Chichi’s story is a reminder that growth comes from being grounded. That you can thrive in your 9–5 and still pursue your purpose on the side.

At WopeCar, we’re grateful for the opportunity to learn from voices like hers; voices that challenge us to grow, stretch, and savour the journey while we’re at it.
